Don’t Drink The Kool-Aid, But Sip On Some Sweet Tea…

During Spry Lee Scott’s most recent visit to Atlanta, he was offered the opportunity to be a part of something great!  An industry heavy hitter, who has grown to be a great friend to Spry, had the pleasure of spending some quality time with brothers, Dr. Cornel West and Clifton West III.  Ed Garnes, of FromAfrosToShelltoes, sat down with the brothers to discuss “Sweet Tea Ethics”, growing up “West”, and Dr. West’s newest book, Brother West: Living & Loving Out Loud, A Memoir.  The hospitable staff of Barnes & Noble (Camp Creek Marketplace) welcomed an overwhelming crowd of Sweet Tea enthusiasts.

Stepping outside of his “fashion box”, Spry Lee Scott not only served as the host for the evening, but also offered his services in assembling the press; as well as organizing the crowd for the book signing. (Talk about many hats!) All in all, the event was a huge success.

On Monday, January 11, 2010, VH1 launched their newest reality show, Let’s Talk About Pep“; about 4 women and their crazy dating experiences.  One of the show’s stars, Jacque Reid, solicited Spry’s styling expertise to dress her for a few episodes.  On Tuesday, January 19, the ladies came together in NYC to celebrate the launch and early success of the hit series.  Spry Lee Scott hung out in VIP with the show’s executive producer, Cheryl “Salt” James, as well as the cast and other celebs/industry folks.  See exclusive pics from the party below.

Introducing New Designer, Dora Abodi

In September, 2009, during Sping/Summer 2010 fashion week, I had the pleasure of meeting Budapest-based designer, Dora Abodi.  Although my fashion week schedule didn’t permit me to make to the runway show on time, I was granted an opportunity to have a private viewing of the clothing. Immediately, I fell in love! I found the architecture her designs to be innovative, and her attention to details extremely impressive.  Before her retreat back to Hungary, she permitted me to create and present my own interpretation of her collection.  I enlisted the help of some of the top industry professionals, including Jon Moe (one of my favorite fashion/celebrity photographers), celeb hairstylist Noel, and award-winning makeup artist Miyako J. Check out the photos below!

10 Years And Counting…

Someone once said that it takes 10 years (or 10,000 hours) to make someone an expert. If this is the case, then I just graduated with honors!

In August of 1999, I started my company, Milado, Inc., A Total Entertainment Development Company. My mission was (and still is) to infiltrate the fashion and entertainment industries, by making the world beautiful, one person at a time. Although my intentions were focused more on the external characteristics of those persons I would come in contact with, I slowly transitioned into feeling the need to enhance one’s inner strengths. Still, there was a long road ahead of me that would not be easily trod. I’m sure that had I known in advance, the obstacles I would face, my choices may have been different. Thankfully, I chose to move forward and follow my dreams.

Along the way, there have been many sleepless nights; aching body parts; unreturned phone calls; unpaid debts; self-doubt; depression; bill-juggling; back-stabbings; difficult clients; and enough tears cried to cause a Katrina-sized catastrophe! I could be more specific, but I want you all to buy the book (smile). There were even times where I questioned my own faith, and wondered why God would allow me to go through so much. Yet, I remained prayerful, and leaned on the fact that He would not give me anything that I could not handle. As I look back, I am grateful for every stumbling block I encountered. It was then that I grew the most, and where my faith in God became stronger.

On a brighter note, I realize that I have been blessed with opportunities that some only dream of. (I couldn’t begin to list them all.) What I am most appreciative of, are the many people that I’ve had the privilege of coming in contact with. Although my plan was to make an impact on you all, you’ve touched me in ways that you can’t begin to imagine. It would probably take another ten years to name everyone that has impacted my life in a positive way, so I won’t! Even those who “did me dirty” became a stepping-stone and an opportunity to grow.

To my family/friends: I thank you from the bottom of the bottom of my heart! There is absolutely no way I could have made it this far without your unconditional love and support. Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, monetary contributions, meals, shoulders to cry on, late night conversations, honesty and meals. You believed in me at times when I wanted to give up. Thank you for even adapting to calling me “Spry” in public! (Some of you are still learning.) Most importantly, thank you for helping me to remain humble in an industry/career that can easily inflate one’s ego! Together, we will upgrade our destiny!

To my clients/colleagues (some of you have crossed over into the family/friends category): Thank you all for making this journey unforgettable! Because of you all, my knowledge in fashion and entertainment is far greater than what I hoped it would be. Many of my lessons came from working side by side with you, that no school in the world could ever teach! Many of you have even invited me into your lives beyond the velvet ropes that can sometimes force us to put up walls. I welcome the opportunity to grow even more with you, and hopefully changing the stigma that gives this industry a bad name.

I look to the future, and I am excited about not only what 2010 has in store for me, but what my life as a whole will bring! I accept ALL things that God has ALREADY made available to me, and those things to come! As I move in front of the camera, gaining a more visible presence in the entertainment world, I solicit more of your prayers and support! Look out for me coming into your homes (via television) and sharing the knowledge that I have attained over the years! I can’t wait to reveal what lies ahead (both near and far)! Please continue to follow me as we all grow together! WWW.OHMYSPRY.COM will be all access pass to what is happening in the life of Spry Lee Scott! I wish you all a Joyous New Year: for happiness is determined, but joy is predicted! Peace and love.
